Women's Equity Business

Women’s Equity Business (WEB) was formed as an answer to the 'Calls to Action' of the 94 points of the Truth and Reconciliation Report. The main focus of WEB is the independent, financially enable Indigenous woman.

The report on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls struck a chord in Faith Hale and Sophia Peltier. Long-time colleagues and like-minded in many ways, Faith and Sophia dedicated many years to the building of Ska:na Family Learning Centre, from a small childcare centre birthed out of the Can-Am Indian Friendship Centre's Head Start Program to a multi-site, urban Indigenous organization operating in three municipalities in Southwestern Ontario.

Deciding to move beyond the focus of Early Years and Early Learning, WEB was formed to work with women of skill and passion who want to build an independent financial life. Research shows that many women do not leave violent domestic situations due to lack of resources. WEB aims to support women creating their own resources. Having a skill, or an idea does not translate into operating a business. Budgeting, accounting/bookkeeping, regulations, reporting and other details are difficult for first time entrepreneurs. WEB works with women to access funds through business plan development to find grants, loans, partners or whatever is needed to become the independent financially sound woman they envision themselves to be.

Ska:na Family Learning Centre

Incorporated in 2003, Ska:na Family Learning Centreis an Indigenous-led, non-profit charity helping our community give our children a better future.  Through the High/Scope approach to early childhood education, each child is supported and encouraged to develop and learn in a positive educational environment. Our focus is to engage children in safe play, while promoting self exploration and skill development.

SFLC offers educational child care for children 3-18 months (infants), 18-30 months (toddlers), 30 month to 5yrs (preschoolers) with before and after school programs, March Break and summer programs for children 6-12 yrs old. SFLC also operates Indigenous EarlyON in three municipalities, Windsor-Essex, Sarnia-Lambton and Chatham-Kent. Additional information for Ska:na Family Learning Centre can be found at https://www.skanaflc.com/

Reconciliation with Purpose

Reconciliation with Purpose is a healing-informed, transformational framework designed to rebuild and reimagine relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous partners. Rooted in the values of Ska:na Family Learning Centre, the project is grounded in over two decades of community collaboration, cultural teaching, and relationship-based learning.

Our approach is supported by action-centered and community-relevant research, using storytelling as a central method of inquiry and reflection. Through shared stories, teachings, and lived experiences, we’ve developed a practical, adaptable collaboration framework that identifies real spaces for growth and offers tools to guide meaningful reconciliation efforts.

What we now offer is not only an effective framework, it’s a pathway. We walk with communities and organizations, offering guidance, training, and practical mechanisms to implement reconciliation in ways that are culturally respectful, relationship-driven, and rooted in healing.

We work with Indigenous and non-Indigenous partners—including community organizations, governments, educational institutions, and service agencies—to foster understanding, cultural connection, and reconciliation.

BONUS! You’re now part of something bigger.
